Vision, Mission & Hope

Who We Are

HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty in Elbert County) envisions a collaboration of Elbert Country churches and social agencies through which the cycle of poverty within our community is broken, and everyone has the tools to become self-sufficient.

Our mission is to connect people in need with churches and social agencies that will provide the appropriate help, support, and education that will not only meet the present need but will enable them to address the root causes of their personal, social, and economic challenges.

We hope that you will partner with HOPE as we seek to live out the mission and message of Jesus Christ as found in Deuteronomy 15:7-8 (as written below)

"If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need."

Clearinghouse

HOPE Provides a clearinghouse for evaluating needs of individuals and making referrals for needed assistance. By using HOPE as a clearinghouse, we are able to track who receives support and prevent duplication. As a result, more people receive assistance.

Provides participating churches and community organization an opportunity to help those in need address the root causes of personal, social and economic problems through a faith-based initiative.

Assistance Provided

Emergency Financial Assistance

We help with rent, utility bills, life-sustaining prescription medication or an unexpected expense that would have an adverse effect on earnings.

Budget Mentoring Program

Our mentors meet with the family to help create a budget, and to offer tips on living within a budget.

Additional Services

We also help with home or appliance repair, GED exam fees, transportation for medical appointments, job interviews, financial counseling, or other services deemed necessary for daily living.

How It Works

Step 1

Pariticpating churches refer Elbert County residents in need of emergency assistance to HOPE.

Step 2

Person in need of emergency assistance contacts HOPE at (706) 283-5956 for a phone interview, followed by a personal appointment.

Step 3

A HOPE volunteer interviews applicant and coordinates available funds and/or refers applicants to appropriate agencies (all information confidential).

Step 4

All fund payments are made directly to providers-no funds are given directly to applicants.

Congratulations to Our HOPE Quilt Raffle Winner!

The drawing for HOPE’s beautiful handmade quilt was held on May 31st—and the lucky winner is Linda Gerlach! Congratulations, Linda!
